House votes to cap NC's gas tax

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – The State House voted to cap North Carolina's gas tax for the first half of 2012.

The full house approved the bill after it passed thru two committees.

It keeps the tax at 35 cents a gallon through June 30th.

The tax is automatically calculated twice a year, based on the wholesale price.

Experts say it would likely go up to 39 cents next year without a cap.

The bill needs a third reading tomorrow before going to the senate.
