WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Some UNC Wilmington students competed to see who could pull a fire truck the fastest. The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity organized the fundraiser.
"We're going to have each team pull it twice and we're going to average these two times together and see who can come out the fastest," said philanthropy chair Matthew Soles.
He said this is the first year the fraternity has put on the event. They worked with both the Wilmington Fire Department and New Hanover County Fire Rescue to use the trucks for the afternoon.
Groups of ten paid $80 to participate in the truck pull. Half of the money raised will go to the Wilmington Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The other half will benefit Gage Mace, a UNCW student who they say was severely burned in a kitchen fire last week.
