COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Department of Social Services director in Columbus County announced Thursday that he would resign from his position.
The announcement comes on the heels of an investigation into Gerald Fogle on allegations of unfair treatment and discrimination. Fogle was on paid leave while he was under investigation.
According to Chairman Michael Lewis, board members will start looking for a new director at the first of the year.
Lewis and Commissioner Edwin Russ said they would like to hire someone in house, but will conduct a statewide search for Fogle's replacement. They said each state has different rules for DSS, and that's why they want the new director to be from North Carolina.
