Voters say no to incorporation in Castle Hayne

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WECT) – People crowded the parking lots of the Riverside Park polling location in Castle Hayne up to the last minute before the polls closed Tuesday night.

Both people for and against the incorporation stood outside, eagerly awaiting preliminary results.

Donald Duck may have been the mayor of Castle Hayne, but we may never know because preliminary results say the town will not become incorporated; 620 voted against it and only 203 voted for incorporation.

Had the incorporation passed, Castle Hayne would have become its own town with its own mayor and town council.  That, however, will not happen.

Tom Radewicz was the only person running for mayor of Castle Hayne.  Radewicz said he is disappointed in the results, but will keep moving forward.
