It's remarkable what one big score can do to lift confidence. A lot of people were walking around with their heads held high these past few days – and with good reason.
The arrival of Hollywood back to Wilmington for the filming of Iron Man 3 is getting buzz not just in this area, but across the country. Industry publications in Los Angeles are reporting how the movie is leaving LA to head east. The folks up in Michigan are squabbling about whether or not they offered enough to attract the blockbuster into their area.
And here in the Port City, people are beaming with pride. To paraphrase a line from another Hollywood classic – we made them an offer they couldn't refuse.
In my opinion, this is one area where incentives make sense and do make a difference. Aside from some minor political grandstanding, everyone seems to be on board that this area had its eye on the ball and delivered when it counted. Local film executives deserve a pat on the back for a job well done!
It's going to be an exciting year around here with the filming of this movie. And I'm hopeful we now have a script in place that will attract even more.
