Will Tapper

Will joined theWECT and Fox Wilmington team in September 2011. In that short time he's workedin several positions including reporter, producer and web producer. Now, he'staken a more behind the scenes role and manages the news operations at WECT andFox Wilmington.

Will'sjournalism and television career started in 8th grade when he workedon his junior high's TV morning announcements and he's been hooked ever since!

He graduatedMagna Cum Laude in June of 2011 from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School ofJournalism in beautiful Athens, Ohio (go Bobcats!)

In Athens,Will spent most of his time outside of class at WOUB, the PBS/NPR stationthat's operated by the university. At WOUB, Will worked as an anchor, reporter,photographer, editor, director and producer for the station's nightly newscast.

It was therethat he got his first taste in major breaking news when tornadoes hit in aregion that usually never gets big storms. He grabbed a camera, got in the carand headed towards the storm. The coverage of the storms won several awardsincluding the Ohio Associated Press's First Place Award for Breaking News andwas named a national finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists Markof Excellence Awards for Breaking News.

Outside ofwork, Will likes to spend time with friends, his dog Ozzie and explorebeautiful southeastern North Carolina. He's also an avid "techie" andloves playing with new technology.
