Will joined the WECT team in September 2011 as a multimedia journalist.
Will's journalism and television career started in 8th grade when he worked on his junior high's TV morning announcements and he's been hooked ever since!
He graduated Magna Cum Laude in June of 2011 from OhioUniversity's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in beautiful Athens, Ohio (go Bobcats!) This is his first reporting job out of college.
In Athens, Will spent most of his time outside of class at WOUB, the PBS/NPR station that's operated by the university. At WOUB, Will worked as an anchor, reporter, photographer, editor, director and producer for the station's nightly newscast.
It was there that he got his first taste in major breaking news when tornadoes hit in a region that usually never gets big storms. He grabbed a camera, got in the car, and headed towards the storm. The coverage of the storms won several awards including the Ohio Associated Press's First Place Award for Breaking News and was named a national finalist in the Society ofProfessional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards for Breaking News.
Outside of work, Will likes to spend time with friends and explore beautiful southeastern North Carolina. He's also an avid "techie" and loves playing with new technology.
Feel free to shoot Will an email with a story idea or just say hi to wtapper@wect.com. And feel free to "follow" him on Twitter and "like" him on Facebook!
