Community buries a local teen

Jesse Willoughby will be remembered for many things. Being a jokester, a skateboarder, but mostly a friend. Friday night, 17-year-old Willoughby was driving his most prized possession, his Honda Civic, when he was struck by an 18-wheeler. The driver of the truck was unharmed but Willoughby died instantly. He left behind a lot of memories.

Willoughby was a 10th grader at Pender High School and worked at Food Lion in Wallace. His friends at Food Lion remember how he used to make them laugh. They say it was never a dull moment when Willoughby was working. Now, the grocery store seems quiet without Willoughby around.

His real passion was his car. Friends say he spent hours with his brother fixing it up.

The small town of Penderlea where Willoughby lived say this is a tragedy.

A visitation will be held Sunday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace from 3pm to 5pm. On Monday a memorial service will be held at 2pm at the Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church.
