The Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament takes center court again at New Hanover High School, but the competition comes from all over. There are teams from Ohio and Virginia, as well as all four of Wilmington's public high schools.
The tournament began over 30 years ago.
Today it's grown into one of the largest competitions in the state.
Ten years ago the competition was renamed the Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament, named after one of the greatest athletes and coaches in the state.
The local teams vying for the title of champions are Laney, Hoggard, New Hanover and Ashley. This tournament could mean big things for the winner, "Whoever wins could have a chance to compete for the state title," says New Hanover High's coahc Linc Lyles.
And even if the winning Wilmington team doesn't compete for the state title, it will still have bragging rights for the next year.
