Every time there is a ruptured gas line, dozens of local emergency officials are called out to help with traffic. Three ruptured gas lines have brought traffic to a standstill on Military Cutoff Road near the new Mayfaire development in the last month alone.
Investigators determined that the contractors were not negligent; therefore, they wern't charged the $4000 fine typically given to violators.
The incidents were declared accidents.
While three gas leaks in this area seem like a lot, Timothy Greenhouse from North Carolina Natural Gas says the number of gas line ruptures in the last year are actually down dramatically. The only reason they seem so frequent is because they are reported more than ruptured water, sewer, and power lines.
