Wanted kidnapper, shooter arrested in NHC

A local man accused of kidnapping and shooting the mother of his child is in custody.

Ricardo Thomas turned himself in to New Hanover County Sheriff's Detectives Monday morning. Investigators say last Friday he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, Myoshia Pridgen, bound her with duct tape, locked her in a closet, then shot her in the leg.

It happened at a home on Little Creek Road in the northern part of New Hanover County. Pridgen is expected to recover, and the couple's two-year-old daughter is staying with relatives.

Thomas is facing attempted murder charges.

"When a person knows he's being looked after and doesn't have many places to go, eventually law enforcement will apprehend the individual," said Detective William Crowningshield.

While being booked, Thomas told News Six he was sorry for what he did and that he still loves Pridgen.
