Woman held hostage; shot in New Hanover County

The New Hanover County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man involved in a shooting and who has a history of breaking the law. Officials say Ricardo Montez Thomas shot a woman in the leg and then stole her car.

Tonight, deputies are hoping to put him back in jail. His last arrest was in July for assault on a female. Ricardo Montez Thomas has been in and out of jail in the past but tonight he's wanted for far more serious charges. Including attempted first degree murder and kidnapping.

Tonight, deputies are looking for Thomas after they say he shot the mother of his child and held the two hostage. Investigators were called to a house on Little Creek Road around four-o'clock this afternoon. Neighbors say they found twenty-three-year old Myoshia Pridgen screaming hysterically in her backyard. Pridgen had been shot in the leg, duct-taped and stuffed in a closet with her two-year-old daughter, Zaria in the house.

Pridgen managed to free herself and was taken to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. We know she is conscious and cooperating with authorities. Detectives tell us Thomas fled the scene in Pridgen's white Buick La Saber. Tonight they have numerous warrants out for his arrest. They say he attempted first degree murder and is being charged with kidnapping. The child was unharmed and is with family members tonight. Pridgen's brother told us earlier that his sister and Thomas had had a rocky relationship in the past and that he had threatened to kill her.
