2 overnight fires at one Wilmington motel

A Wilmington motel was the scene for two separate fires this morning. About 2 am two un-rented rooms at the Wilmington Inn on Market Street caught fire. Even though the rooms were supposed to be unoccupied, investigators say the blaze was started by a lit cigarette. The contents of both rooms were destroyed by the smoke, but the rest of the building was undamaged.

Then about 4:30, smoke started pouring out of the laundry room. Fire fighters were forced to evacuate some of the nearby rooms in order to bring the smoky blaze under control. That fire's cause is still under investigation.

There was also a fire at the same motel earlier this past weekend. Like the first fire last night, investigators say that one was also started by a lit cigarette.
