COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – At least one person was killed Thursday afternoon as the result of a traffic accident in Columbus County.

According to officers with the Columbus County Highway Patrol, preliminary reports show a driver lost control of their vehicle while traveling on Highway 905 in Nakina near Poley Bridge Church.  The vehicle slammed into a tree.

Authorities say there were two people in the vehicle at the time of the accident, the driver and the passenger.  The passenger was killed in the crash.
