Flu vaccine on the way

The country's health officials want the flu vaccine to get to the people who need it the most. Unfortunately, if you live in Wilmington, you may not be able to get it at all, at least for the time being.

The New Hanover County Health Department ran out of flu shots late Tuesday afternoon, and if you try anywhere else in town that usually offers the vaccine, chances are they are out as well. Other places around town like Medac and Doctor's Urgent Care Center have also run out. Now a top official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the flu epidemic could get worse before it gets better, and she stresses that high-risk people need to be persistent about getting vaccinated.

There is good news though, The Brunswick County Health Department will have 150 doses available next week. On December 15th Brunswick Community Hospital will hold a flu shot clinic in Supply starting at 7:30 am. The shot will be available to adults at a cost of $15 each - cash only, no insurance will be accepted. For more information you can call the Brunswick County Health Department at 1-888-428-4429.
