Brittany Dewey joined WECT as a News Producer in June 2011, just two weeks after graduating from Elon University. After spending four years land locked in central North Carolina, her coastal cravings got the best of her and brought her to Wilmington.
Brittany was born and raised on Long Island, New York where she stayed until moving down south for school. While at Elon, Brittany double majored in Journalism and Media Arts & Entertainment, with concentrations in Broadcast News and New Media. At first, she was apprehensive about pursuing a degree and, ultimately, a career in broadcast; however, she realized it was an obvious choice when her Communications class was the only class in which she found herself paying attention for any length of time. Brittany's mind is constantly buzzing with ideas and thoughts – a direct result of being a New Yorker, but a vital characteristic as a producer.
While in school, Brittany produced Elon's Emmy award winning student newscast, Phoenix14 News. She was part of the team that picked up numerous awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, as well as top honors from the Broadcast Educators Association. Even as a producer, Brittany has experience as a "one-man-band" reporter and video editor. As a junior in college, Brittany was indicted into Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communications Honor Society. Throughout college, she landed internships in the country's most competitive market – first at Fox News Channel in New York, then as a production assistant intern at News12 Long Island.
Brittany is currently the 6 a.m. producer for WECT's morning show, Carolina in the morning. When she's not producing, or adjusting to her nocturnal schedule, Brittany enjoys spending time with her first love – the beach. There, you'll find her running between the boardwalks, jumping waves, or just staring at its beauty. Brittany also enjoys kickboxing and any other high cardio workouts, as well as spending time with family and friends who come to visit. Brittany spent most of her life on a competition tap dance team, so you may see her sneak in some tap moves in relatively random places.
