24-year-old Kenansville Police officer Joshua Lanier was on duty near Cooper Street Monday night when he saw a man standing on the side of the road. Lanier approached him and the man turned and ran. Lanier chased him, so the man pulled a gun and shot the officer in the chest. Luckily Lanier was wearing a bulletproof vest so he only suffered cracked ribs and is already out of the hospital. Meanwhile, the Kenansville Police Department is offering a $3,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the shooter.
