WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Police say a teenager was killed in a shooting that happened in the Creekwood neighborhood Wednesday night.
It happened in the 1000 block of North 30th Street.
New Hanover County dispatch received a call about multiple shots around 9:45 p.m.
"People just ran in my house and shot them," the caller told 911 operators. "They ran in my house, ran upstairs and shot two people."
According to witnesses, two men were being chased by a group of five to six men, before running into an upstairs apartment. Shortly after, the two men were shot, and the suspects were seen fleeing the scene in two vehicles.
Police said Jonathan Jones Jr., 19 of Jacksonville, died on the scene, and Edward Hanible, 24 of Wilmington, was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
According to police, the ambulance crashed on 16th and Market on the way to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Hanible and at least one EMS worker were injured in the crash. Both were picked up by another ambulance and taken to the hospital. There is no word on either of their conditions at this time.
According to a spokesperson for the hospital, there was moderate damage to the front right side of the ambulance. A reserve truck has been placed into service, so there is no loss of service to the community while the damaged vehicle is being repaired.
Police are still looking for the shooters.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, they are looking for a white Honda with tinted windows and a light blue Chevy box-style car.
