One arrested in deadly mobile home shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A husband is in jail, charged with murder, in connection to the fatal shooting of his wife.
Wilmington Police responded to an EMS call Sunday afternoon around 4:15 p.m. at 219 S. Kerr, Lot 5. Inside the mobile home, emergency crews found a woman, Diane Clemmons Belton, 55, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Belton's husband, Davis Ray Belton, 65, was held for questioning, and charged late Sunday night with second degree murder.
Neighbors of the Belton's spoke with WECT Monday about the couple. Teresa Cortez has lived near the Belton's for six years. She said most people know each other in the mobile home park, but the Belton's kept to themselves.
"The man didn't look well," said Cortez. "He seemed angry."
Cortez said Davis would yell at the neighborhood kids when they played too close to his mobile home. She said he didn't speak kindly to Diane in public, either.
"He looked at her with a scowl," said Cortez. "We never talked to him."
Cortez said she saw Diane Belton most days when she walked to her mailbox. She said Diane wore a uniform and a gun that looked like law enforcement or security.
Wilmington Police are investigating the incident.
