Evacuations, curfews, and bridge closings

SOUTHEASTERN, NC (WECT) – With Hurricane Irene projected to near North Carolina's eastern coast, several counties have issued evacuations, curfews and bridge closures.

Mandatory Evacuations

  • ***As of 9:00am Holden Beach is open****
  • Holden Beach – all residents and tourists were told to leave at 6:00 p.m. Friday night
  • N. Topsail Beach
  • Oak Island – for all tourists and non residents
  • Caswell Beach – for all tourists and non residents

Voluntary Evacuations

  • Topsail Beach
  • Surf City
  • New Hanover County
  • Carolina Beach
  • Kure Beach
  • Wrightsville Beach
  • Sunset Beach
  • UNCW

Curfews

  • Wrightsville Beach – 10pm to 7am **extended until noon**
  • UNCW – 10pm until necessary
  • Holden Beach – 8pm until necessary
  • Surf City – 8pm to noon Saturday
  • Topsail Beach – 8pm to noon Saturday
    Caswell Beach - 8pm to 8am Saturday

Bridge Closings

  • Snow's Cut Bridge – scheduled to close around 6 pm. Friday.
  • Sunset Beach – close at 5pm, or earlier if there are 45 mph winds
  • Holden Beach – closed at 6pm Friday.
  • Cape Fear Memorial Bridge – not scheduled to close.
  • Isabella Holmes Bridge – not scheduled to close.
  • Oak Island Bridges (both of them) - will close when winds reach 45 mph
