NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A funnel cloud or possible tornado was spotted around 4:52 Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The funnel cloud was seen just north of the Snow's Cut Bridge, about three miles north of Carolina Beach, moving south at 20 mph.
Another funnel cloud was reportedly spotted near 17th extension in Wilmington, but has not been confirmed.
A tornado warning was issued for the southern part of New Hanover County, but expired at 5:15 p.m. According to the NWS, radar and spotter reports indicated that although a thunderstorm remained in the area, a tornado was no longer being produced.
The National Weather Service has received reports of funnel clouds in Pender County.
The report said a the funnel cloud was spotted near the Hampstead Fire Department.
