PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Monday was an exciting day for Pender County as it welcomed the new permanent Health Department Director, Carolyn Moser.
The search for a permanent director took nearly a year to complete and there were several roadblocks aside from this process to boot.
There were six Board of Health resignations in two weeks and there was a very public and nasty exchange between Commissioner Chairman George Brown and Interim Health Director Wayne Raynor. Moser, however, got warm greetings on her first day.
Moser is from Madison County and has experience as a health director.
"I'm ready for a challenge, I think that I have a lot that I can contribute," said Moser.
She also said in her near 30 years in the public health industry she hasn't had problems working with county leaders. She also said she's already starting off on the right foot with Commissioner Brown.
"It was quite obvious that he had a sincere interest in what was going on at the health department," said Moser.
The Pender County Health Director position opened up after Jack Griffith resigned back in September.
