KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Town of Kure Beach has accepted the resignation of a commissioner who was arrested earlier this month on drug related charges.

Police arrested and charged Barry Nelder, 64, for possession of drugs during a traffic stop at the beginning of August.  Nelder was pulled over a mile and half into Carolina Beach.

He was found with .9 grams of marijuana and was under the influence at the time of his arrest, according to a police report.

The town voted Tuesday night to not fill Nelder's open position because elections are just around the corner.  Nelder filed to run for re-election in July and his name is still on the ballot.
