Warrants issued for Southport man who led police on a high-speed chase

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — A 26-year-old man is wanted after hitting a vehicle and leading the police on a high-speed chase through Southport Saturday.

A Southport police officer witnessed a vehicle hit a parked car around 6:25 p.m. near the 600 block of North Howe St. while he was on a routine patrol of the area.

The officer pursued the vehicle until it stopped near Caswell Ave. The driver, Bobby Holmes, reportedly jumped out of his vehicle, ran into the woods and has not been seen since.

There are warrants out for Holmes' arrest and he is expected to be charged with the following:

  • Driving with a revoked license
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Reckless driving
  • Possession of an open container of alcohol
  • Resisting an officer
  • Felony fleeing to allude arrest

No one was inside the car that was hit, but a total of $8,000 worth of damage was done to the two vehicles, according to Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove.
