BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office have arrested two men in connection to a drug investigation this weekend.

According to Sgt. April Stanley with the sheriff's office, Braulio Yanez Marin, 28, and Jamie Lopez Gonzales, 32, were charged for trafficking cocaine and conspiring to traffic cocaine.

During the investigation Saturday, agents were led to a cornfield off Diamond Loop Way in Ash.  K9 Viper and his handler Deputy Jared Zeller located a package containing a kilogram of cocaine.  The package weighed 1,162 grams with a street value of more than $100,000.

Viper was exposed to dangerous chemicals in this investigation that led to a severe reaction.  He was taken to an emergency veterinarian hospital in Southport, but was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday morning in Viper's tribute at 11:00 at the sheriff's office.
