Pender Co. Schools Interim Superintendent, new principals announced

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Rachel Manning, current Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, was named Interim Superintendent of Pender County Schools during the June 30 Board of Education meeting.

According to a news release from the school system, Manning will take over the Interim Superintendent duties on August 1. Before becoming the Assistant Superintendent in 2007, Manning was principal of Cape Fear Elementary from 2001-2007.

Several other administrative appointments were made during the meeting. Douglas Towle was named principal of Burgaw Elementary. He served as assistant principal at the school for the past two years and has worked at Wrightsboro Elementary, Murray Middle and Myrtle Grove Middle.

Edith Skipper will become the new principal of West Pender Middle School. Skipper, who was the principal of Cape Fear Middle, is replacing James Parker, who resigned from the district.

Former Topsail High assistant principal Christopher Madden will be the new principal of Cape Fear Middle School. The former history teacher became assistant principal of Topsail High in 2009.

Askia Kirby, the 2005 teacher of the year at Leland Middle and most recently assistant principal of Topsail Middle, will take over as principal at Cape Fear Elementary. Kirby also served as an assistant principal at North Brunswick High from 2005-2010.
