PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Pender County Board of Health has chosen Carolyn Moser as their new Health Director.
Moser has been the Health Director for Madison County for over 16 years. She began her career in public health as a Public Health Nurse trainee in 1982 at the Madison County Health Department and became director in 1992.
The new Pender County Health Director has written and administered over $3 million in grant funding over the past 20 years. Projects include implementing an enhanced 911 program for Madison County and construction of the first school-based health center in that area.
Moser said she will bring Pender County a wealth of public health experience from a "hands on" perspective. She is expected to begin work August 15.
The Pender County Board of Health met Wednesday night to discuss the director position. The meeting ended after 20 minutes of closed session.
Six board of health members resigned this year, five of them saying Brown was their reason for resigning. They also said he was a road block in finding someone to fill the health director position.
Brown said during Wednesday's meeting that the current board is very strong.
