TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) – The Tabor City Police Department is investigating how a fight suddenly ended in the death of a man Wednesday morning.
According to authorities, police responded to the 200 block of Bay Street shortly before 11 a.m. in reference to a fight. The fight escalated into a shooting, killing 23-year-old Chad Bellamy.
Albert Henry, who was wanted in connection to the shooting, turned himself into the Columbus County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon. He has a $1 million bond for second degree murder charges and a $20,000 bond for being a convicted felon with a weapon.
Resident Peggy Soles was friends with both men and said she talked with Henry moments before he turned himself into jail.
Bellamy's family members said he and Henry used to be good friends, but Soles said they haven't gotten along for the past couple of years.
Henry made his first court appearance Thursday where he told a judge he would hire his own attorney.
