Southport Police arrested a St. James woman for prescription drug theft.
Hollie Jeane Bricklemyer is charged with obtaining a controlled substance by false pretenses.
Police received a report on June 8 that oxycotin pills were missing from an assisted living center in Southport.
Upon completing an investigation and audit, Southport Police said they traced the missing pills to Bricklemyer, who confessed to taking them.
Several law enforcement agencies in Southeastern North Carolina have said prescription drug theft is on the rise, as well as deaths related to prescription drug overdoses.
