CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - A University of North Carolina system report makes three dozen recommendations to improve campus security. The report suggests ways to respond to sexual violence, increase law enforcement preparedness, and fight alcohol and drug abuse on campus.

ALBANY, Ga. (AP) - Attorneys are scheduled to make opening statements today in the criminal trial of three people charged in a deadly salmonella outbreak traced to a southwest Georgia peanut plant five years ago. Nine people died and more than 700 were sickened in the 2009 outbreak. The dead were from Minnesota, Ohio, Virginia, Idaho and North Carolina.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Fast-food workers and community activists are holding a rally in Raleigh to support a minimum wage of $15 an hour and the right to join a union. The rally will be held today at the McDonald's on South Street. It is part of a national effort supported by labor groups for pay of $15 an hour and the right to unionize.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The Board of Governors for the University of North Carolina system will consider tuition cap increases at 5 percent annually for each campus. The board also is expected to elect a new chancellor for UNC Asheville when it meets today at the Spangler Center in Chapel Hill.
