BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brunswick County Commissioner Charles Warren is demanding the sheriff's office investigate actions of several deputies and two of his fellow county commissioners.
Warren filed and incident report Tuesday, claiming he is being harassed.
The commissioner claims deputies have pulled him over on the road without cause and have followed him in different parts of the county, including coming home from meetings. He also believes deputies are conspiring with Commissioner Scott Phillips and Chairman Bill Sue to follow and harass him. Warren further claims deputies are staring at him during commissioner meetings and sitting too closely.
Sgt. Mark Francisco with the sheriff's office said he will conduct an investigation and is expected to release the results sometime next week.
Sue believes the investigation will come back false and feels like the whole situation is "like kindergarten."
WECT attempted to reach Warren Wednesday, but the commissioner has yet to return our calls.
Warren has been making claims against fellow county commissioners for months, saying they are disrespectful and racially prejudice against him as he is the only Black commissioner on the board. The commissioners, who voted to censure Warren in April, deny his claims.
