WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Investigators with the Wilmington Fire Department have determined an apartment fire on Carlton Drive Tuesday afternoon was accidental.

Fire officials say the flames sparked in an area near the clothes dryer, but could not say the dryer was the cause.

The fire started at 120 Carleton Place; it quickly spread to two other units.  There were no injuries to humans, but three dogs died.

The fire sent a huge plume of smoke into the air in that part of the city.

Firefighters said the blaze caused at least $200,000 in structural damage.
