Pope CAA's best...again

UNCW press release

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior outfielder Thomas Pope was named Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Week on Monday after hitting .615 for UNCW last week as the Seahawks moved closer to clinching a CAA tournament berth.

The Seahawks have earned a total of eight conference awards this season.

Pope, who leads the CAA with a career-high .422 batting average, collected eight hits in 13 at bats for the week, including two doubles and a home run. He had two hits in all four games, scored four runs and knocked in six. He's bidding to become the first Seahawk to lead the conference in batting average since 1989 when Tommie Adams hit .385.

In the series finale against Old Dominion, he connected on his fifth homer of the season to add insurance for the Seahawks who salvaged the weekend series with a 5-3 win.

The Seahawks visit Coastal Carolina on Tuesday before closing out the regular season hosting VCU in a CAA series that begins on Thursday at 6 p.m.
