Showers and thunderstorms are possible this weekend across Southeastern NC and some of those storms could pack a punch.
Severe thunderstorms may be possible Saturday afternoon. The main threat would be large hail or damaging winds in the stronger storms. Tornadoes aren't likely, but they cannot be completely ruled out.
Thunderstorms are considered "severe" if they contain hail of 1" (quarter-sized) or larger, or if they contain winds of 58 mph or higher.
The Storm Prediction Center puts eastern North Carolina under a Slight Risk of severe weather for Saturday.
Highs on Saturday are expected to be in the mid 80s. Rain chances will continue for Sunday as well.
