TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) - Columbus County Sheriff's Deputies say the wife of a police captain in Tabor City has turned herself into authorities.
Teresa Foley surrendered Thursday morning. She's accused of stealing pills from the Waterbrooke Assisted Living Facility, where she was the director. The incident allegedly happened in October. Foley was fired later in the year.
Deputies say Foley, the wife of Tabor City Police Captain Dean Foley, went to the magistrate office in Tabor City this morning. She is charged with embezzlement of a controlled substance by an employee and is free on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
"We did find it disturbing and unfortunate that this occurred in this community," said Reema Owens, the owner of Waterbrooke Assisted Living, in a statement. "We have enhance security measures and are grateful that no residents were harmed."
According to Owens, an extra camera has been installed in the medicine room and the facility has done some things with a pharmacy consultant to help prevent this in the future.
"They are coming once a month, doing controlled substance reviews so we can spot some discrepancies," explained Owens. "We have taken these measure to ensure that something doesn't happen again."
