Civil service commission

Wilmington City Council got a harsh warning yesterday when it considered adjourning the independent board that handles disciplinary hearings for police officers and firefighters. Last night the president of the National Fraternal Order of Police told them not to "mess with city's civil service commission." The group president says the commission protects employees from being wrongfully fired and from retaliation from their superiors. Officials say a decision on what to do with the civil service commission could be months away.
