ONE fights against poverty and disease in Africa

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - ONE, a group that fights against poverty and disease in Africa, screened the documentary The Lazarus Effect Friday night.

The film follows the story of HIV positive people in Zambia, who undergo a remarkable transformation thanks to access to treatment.

The group hoped their efforts would promote giving to those who are less fortunate.

"People care about these issues because there is 1.4 billion people living off of $1.25 a day," said Rachel Fox, a member of ONE. "Children are dying every day from preventable diseases, things that can be treated."

Fox said the group is looking for more people to join the cause.

"It's an easy campaign to be involved in,"said Fox. "It's not a charity. They don't ask for your money. We just want your voice. We want to rally your voice for the world's poorest."

U2's lead singer, Bono, started the group ONE.

It now has more than two million members who are working to fight poverty, aids and malaria in Africa.
