The Cape Fear River is about to get deeper in Wilmington. Workers this weekend started dredging and blasting there way to the bottom. The operations are taking place between the channel and Anchorage Basin. The coast guard is requesting masters, owners, and operators of vessels to give advance notice of when they'll be coming and going to help minimize potential delays. The dredging project involves deepening most of the Cape Fear River's shipping channel from 38 to 42 feet. It's expected to take a few years.
