BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A 17-year-old girl died after she was stabbed during a fight with another teenager, according to the Bladen County Sheriff's Office.

The incident took place Thursday afternoon on Sand Pit Road outside of Elizabethtown around 4:00 p.m.

The victim, Princess Cromartie, was in critical condition after surgery at Bladen County Hospital.  She was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she died Friday afternoon, according to District Attorney Jon David.

Deputies arrested Shakendria F. Harper, 19, from Clinton on a charge of attempted murder, while Cromartie was still listed in critical condition. David said he is now pursuing murder charges against Harper.

According to the victim's family, the two teens met in an online chat room, called ooVoo. However, the friendship faded when the two allegedly got into a fight over a boy.

Cromartie's father said the teen left her job at his business Thursday afternoon to run home. He said Harper was waiting outside for her.

Deputies said Harper stabbed Cromartie in the leg, hitting an artery.

The victim's cousin, Tammorah Smith, said the family will remember Cromartie as a sweet girl who loved life.

"That was a beautiful person that they took from us," she said. "That was senseless. Getting out here fighting and all that nonsense, that is not the answer to solving stuff."

Deputies believe there are witnesses and are encouraging people to call the Sheriff's Office if they saw what happened.

Harper is in the Bladen County Jail on an enhanced bond of $1 million, up from an original $100,000 bond.
