ORLANDO, FL (WECT) – The U.S. Marshal in Florida confirmed a fugitive from Wilmington, North Carolina killed himself inside a motel Friday afternoon in Florida.  New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David confirmed the suspect is Dwayne Moore, who was wanted for the attempted murder of his girlfriend this week and a 2009 murder in Pender County.

The U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force out of Wilmington tracked down Moore. They tipped off Orlando Police regarding his whereabouts.

Earlier this week, police say Dwayne Moore shot his girlfriend Kayla Floyd.  He was also considered a suspect in the 2009 murder of Tiffany Dawkins, according to David.

We talked to Dawkins' family shortly after they learned about Moore's death. They are angry about the way this ended.

"I'd like to see him behind bars, suffering and rotting in jail," said Brittany Hockabout, Dawkins' sister. "Why would he go and kill himself? He can't stand up and be a man but he can shoot two innocent people?"

Now that Moore is dead, the family is sharing more details about what led up to Tiffany's murder. Hockabout said her sister was killed over money and drugs.

"He blamed us and her for robbing his apartment and I think he stole the money and got the drug man to blame it on Tiff," she said.

Hockabout says they never stole from Moore. As they were helping Dawkins move out of Moore's apartment, she tells us Moore threatened the family with a gun.

Hockabout recalled Moore's words that day, "He said, ‘I will give you until after Christmas, after that you will be shot.  And I will kill you and I will make sure you are dead.'"

Dawkins was killed two days after Christmas, leaving behind two young girls.

Hockabout hopes that if anything, her sister's death will serve as a warning for other young women.

"Just got to be careful who you love," she said. "If they're controlling, get away from them quick.

Floyd is still in the hospital.

The D.A. said because Moore is dead, the attempted murder case against him is closed. However, he said the Dawkins case remains open for now.
