The former publisher of a Wilmington Spanish language newspaper will be deported to Columbia. A federal judge has ordered Alejandro Llinas-Suarez to return to his native country after he was found guilty of owning a handgun as an illegal immigrant. Llinas-Suarez came to the United States in 1994 on a six month visa. Llinas-Suarez was able to get a gun permit, But New Hanover County Sheriff's Department officials say they are not sure how that happened. State regulations allow people who are not U.S. citizens to get a permit under special circumstances, but Llinas-Suarez did not qualify. Llinas-Suarez published "Mundo Latino" while living in Wilmington.
