Horse owners are reacting to word that the state's first case of West Nile virus in a horse has been found in Brunswick County. The death of the animal has caused many horse owners to re-evaluate the way they treat their horses.
Thirteen horses live at the Willett's farm in Bolivia. A vaccination for diseases including West Nile costs about $70 each year. Many horse owners say that is a small price to pay for protection against the West Nile disease. Horses that contract the virus usually have trouble walking or even standing up. They also display other neurological problems.
