Street Turkeys collect food for those in need

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Help the hungry by donating items to the annual Street Turkeys Food Drive at Wrightsville Beach Wednesday.

All of the food will go towards re-stocking the shelves of The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina at Wilmington.

While turkeys are greatly appreciated, volunteers are also collecting canned goods, kid friendly items, baby products and hygiene items.

The Food Bank provides food and supplies for 83 area food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and group homes.  There are currently over 61,000 families in the area who go hungry every day, so any contribution makes a big difference.

Monetary contributions are also welcome - $1.00 can provide four meals.  If you cannot make it to one of the listed drop off locations, you can participate in the virtual food drive online.  All donations are tax deductible.

Drop off locations include:

Harris Teeter

  • Lumina Station
  • Long Leaf Mall
  • Oak Island Shopping Center

The Landing, 530 Causeway Drive, Wrightsville Beach

Volunteers will be collecting food until 7:00 Wednesday night.
