With a heat index that made it feel like it was over 100 degrees outside---most folks tried to stay indoors. But a stubborn brush fire just west of Wilmington put firefighters right in the middle of it. About four acres burned just off of Highway 421 North in Brunswick County. Although several fire departments were called to the scene the majority of the fire was handled by the Forest Service. No one was hurt in the fire. Officials say the fire fighters were well hydrated, therefore able to withstand the heat.
