It is sign up or shut up time for people who have been talking about running for an elected office in southeastern North Carolina.
In Carolina Beach, former mayor Hubert Vinson filed the formal papers so he can once again run for mayor. Incumbent Ray Rothrock is not seeking another term. So far, Vinson's only opponent is Dennis Barbour who also filed this afternoon.
In Wilmington, after weeks of campaigning, Spence Broadhurst filed for mayor. Mayor Harper Peterson is expected to run for re-election.
Also in Wilmington John Evans, Kent Chatfield, Pete Devita, and John Nesselroade have filed to run for city council. Three seats are available.
