Severe weather rocks southeastern NC

Residents living along Lake Waccamaw say a small tornado tore trough their neighborhood.

The powerful storm sent debris everywhere, causing plenty of structural damage. It even ripped a column from the front of a new home.

The wet weather also caused a tractor trailer to flip over on Highway 242 just north of Bladenboro.

Most surrounding counties reported heavy rain and high winds. The bulk of the damage was in Columbus County, where some residents said they had little time to react.

"I saw the wind coming and I went inside and told my wife to get the grandson and get into the bathroom," said Ronald Hamm of Lake Waccamaw. "By the time we got in there, it was over."

Despite all the damage, there are no reports of any serious injuries.
