Just one month after she was fired from the Wilmington Police Department, Mary Green is back on the payroll. She left as a lieutenant. She returns as a sergeant, a lower rank. Officially Green won't return to duty until July 16th.
She's at least the fourth officer in the past year to be fired or otherwise disciplined and then reinstated. One of those officers, Joe Cina, was reportedly involved in an incident with Green which ultimately led to disciplinary action against both of them.
Green was the highest ranking black female on the force. Top officials at police headquarters and city hall have sidestepped questions about who ordered Green's reinstatement. Deputy chief Tandy Carter could only say he's excited for her return. He said, "She'll be integrated back like nothing ever happened."
