BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – For the first time in twenty years, Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen Counties will have a new District Attorney.
Assistant District Attorney John David slipped ahead of Whiteville attorney Butch Pope by 6 percent of the vote Tuesday night.
Early on, Pope was confident he gained as many votes as he could from his hometown. He spent the night watching results at Ivy's Café in Whiteville.
David hopes to create a stricter policy for repeat offenders and wants to work towards getting Columbus County a long-term residential drug treatment center.
