DNA samples

The state House has given final approval to expand DNA testing to all convicted felons and some other defendants. The measure would require more prisoners to provide DNA samples, which would be tested and stored in the state's DNA database.

Currently, samples only are taken of people convicted of certain violent crimes. Police and other investigators use the database to match felons who may be tied to unsolved crimes.
