WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -  Tropical storm Richard formed Thursday morning about 220 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman Island.  Richard becomes the seventeenth named storm of 2010 in the tropical Atlantic.  Over the next 24-48 hours the storm will produce possible flooding rains over the island of Jamaica as it drifts very slowly to the southwest.

In the coming days Richard should strengthen into a category one hurricane as is moves towards the Yucatan Peninsula.     By early next week  Richard could emerge in the southern Gulf of Mexico, where it could threaten the U.S. Gulf coast in the long term.
